About the Intranet Benchmarking Forum (IBF)
The IBF is an exclusive, confidential intranet and portal benchmarking group. Formed in 2002,the IBF is the leading intranet benchmarking group globally and is acknowledged to have established the industry standards for intranet and portal performance.
Our mission
The mission of the IBF is to drive forward the performance of member intranets and portals through interaction, measurement and best practice.

Launched at IBF Live October 2006 the IBF blog is designed for the sharing of intranet and portal management and deployment views and experiences. We touch on a huge array of subjects – from improving accessibility and solving end-user conflicts to managing change programmes and delivering business value.

Helen Day
Helen is an information professional who worked at Boots for 14 years, moving through marketing research to head the Business Information team. Helen set up the first Boots The Chemist Head Office intranet and as Group Intranet Manager she later implemented a new content management solution and redesigned the corporate intranet from a user perspective.
She implemented a new portal to Boots' 1400 stores, delivering integrated information and systems through user centric design. Helen won the International Information Industry award for Best Intranet Project 2004 and was runner up European Information Professional of the year 2005.
Louise Ferguson
Louise manages user testing evaluations for IBF 100 members and TEG clients.
Louise Ferguson is a user experience practitioner who has worked in the field of user centred systems development since 1986. She holds a Masters degree in Human Computer Interaction, together with other degrees and has recently taught usability at undergraduate evel to both computer scientists and design students. Her recent publications include Getting By, Not Getting On: Technology in UK Workplaces (The Work Foundation, 2003), the report from a major ethnographic research project in the UK, and Touching the State (Design Council, 2004), concerning design in the public sector.
Louise writes regularly for a variety of publications including Usability News, The Guardian and The Linguist. She has appeared on radio to discuss issues such as business blogging (BBC Radio 4 Woman’s Hour, 2003), and is a regular speaker at international conferences and seminars.
Nancy Goebel
As Director of Business Development, Nancy's is responsible for expanding the IBF's presence in North America.
Previously a Vice President at J.P. Morgan Chase, Nancy has 18+ years of corporate office experience. Most recently as the IT portfolio manager in corporate technology, Nancy successfully implemented an award-winning intranet (as recognized in the 2007 Nielsen Norman Group Design Annual), chaired a range of special interest groups to engage the global community of intranet managers and launched numerous intranet sites and applications to enhance workforce productivity.
Elizabeth Marsh
Elizabeth conducts research into the latest best practice and techniques for intranets. She has over eight years’ experience designing, developing and managing intranets. Most recently she managed the customer service intranet at T-Mobile, with a strong focus on knowledge management and the development of user communities.
Sam Marshall
Sam Marshall is responsible for managing the IBF portfolio of best practice intranet and portal deployment research.
Sam spent 8 years at Unilever, where until recently he was responsible for the company's Global Portal Implementation. This involved overseeing the roll-out of over 700 online communities to 85,000 people and consolidating several thousand intranets into a single system.
Sam is a regular speaker at international conferences. He has an MSc in Artificial Intelligence and an MA in Psychology.
Paul Miller
Paul founded TEG and IBF after an early career as a UK Business Editor and business author. He has consulted on organisational communication at senior management levels for many blue chip companies. He is an Accredited Business Communicator (ABC) and has pioneered practical approaches to Knowledge Management and wrote the best selling KM handbook Mobilising The Power Of What You Know (Random House).
Paul has won international awards for organisational communication projects. He has been a regular speaker at conferences on intranet, employee engagement and knowledge management. He was involved in the birth of intranet at several large global organisations to help introduce intranet technology and strategy to those companies.
Paul is a member of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) and a past member of the UK board of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC).
Stephan Schillerwein
Stephan is Director of IBF Europe, focussing on Business Development and Benchmarking for the IBF Europe members.
He has spent the last 10+ years in intranet management and consulting, mainly as an Intranet Manager at Vogel Media Group and Swisscom. He was involved with the creation of an online information management methodology at the University of St. Gall and has done intranet consulting for 20+ organisations in the German speaking countries.
